Mastopexy

Mastopexy lifts and reshapes sagging breasts, restoring the correct position of the areola and a firm contour. Depending on volume, the procedure can be combined with implants or with breast reduction. The goal is to achieve a breast that is as natural and symmetrical as possible, adapted to the patient’s body constitution.

The ideal candidate

Mastopexy is recommended for women who wish to lift and restore the firmness of sagging breasts, without significantly changing their volume. This procedure is suitable after weight loss, pregnancies or breastfeeding, when the breast tissue and skin have lost their elasticity.

  • Women with moderate or severe breast ptosis
  • Good general health
  • No conditions that would impede proper healing
  • Realistic expectations regarding the shape and position of the breasts
  • Smoking must be reduced or stopped before and after the procedure

The technique

Mastopexy involves removing excess skin and repositioning the breast tissue to lift the breast and restore a firmer, more youthful contour. Depending on the degree of ptosis, the incisions can vary, from around the areola to vertical or anchor-shaped scars. The procedure can be combined with breast implants if an increase in volume is also desired.

Anesthesia and duration

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, for the patient’s comfort throughout the intervention. The duration of a mastopexy is, on average, between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the case.

Recovery

The first few days

Bed rest and wearing a special support bra are recommended. Local edema and bruising may occur, as well as discomfort that can be controlled with analgesics.

The first week

Most patients can resume light activities, avoiding intense physical effort and lifting heavy objects. The postoperative check-up is important for monitoring healing.

The first month

Edema and bruising decrease significantly. Usual activities can gradually be resumed, with attention to body position and avoiding local trauma.

The final results become visible after 3 to 6 months, when the tissues stabilize completely and the scars mature.

Risks and safety

  • Local infections
  • Bleeding or hematoma
  • Visible or hypertrophic scars
  • Temporary changes in nipple sensitivity
  • Postoperative breast asymmetry

All risks are discussed during the preoperative consultation, and following the medical instructions helps minimize complications.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I wait after pregnancy to have a mastopexy?

It is recommended to wait at least 6 months after finishing breastfeeding and stabilizing your body weight, in order to obtain optimal results and proper healing.

Can I combine mastopexy with breast implants?
